The S&P 500 index rose by 0.26% during Wednesday’s session, settling at around 7,748 as investors’ hopes of interest rates remaining unchanged were renewed following data showing that inflation slowed to 3.4% in July, compared with 3.5% in June. Meanwhile, earnings results from technology companies further strengthened optimism about continued demand for AI infrastructure. However, with oil prices remaining stable and geopolitical uncertainty persisting, questions remain over how markets will move in the coming period.

The attached chart may help to understand better the situation . The index has been consolidating during this week’s trading sessions within a technical pattern known as a “pennant,” particularly following last week’s strong 3.58% gain. Since this pattern is generally considered a continuation pattern that follows the prevailing trend, it suggests that the positive performance could continue, provided the index breaks above the resistance area near 7,780 and manages to hold above it.

Ultimately, monitoring how price reacts to the support and resistance levels of the triangle pattern shown on the chart will help determine the next direction for prices.
